CJ Logistics America broke ground this week on the previously announced cold storage warehouse it will be operating in New Century, Kansas. This facility, located just 30 miles (48 km) outside of Kansas City, is planned to open in Q3 2025.
The groundbreaking event was attended by dozens of individuals involved in the ambitious project, including cold storage developer Yukon Real Estate Partners, real estate investor BGO, Evans General Contractors, and CJ Logistics America customer Flora Food Group, a global plant-based food producer of brands like Country Crock and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. Flora Food will occupy approximately 60% of this new facility, with the remainder of the building available for additional cold chain customers.
The 291,000 square foot (27,000 square meters) cold storage warehouse will utilize Alta EXPERT refrigeration and other state-of-the-art technologies. It is also strategically located less than four miles from Interstate 35, 11 miles (18 km) from the newly-developed BNSF Railway transcontinental line intermodal facility, and will have a direct rail spur into the warehouse. The Kansas City market offers significant logistics advantages, as 85% of the United States can be reached within two days from this facility. Altogether, these features will help CJ Logistics’ customers improve their supply chain efficiency, reduce emissions, and realize major financial savings.
