‘Marry My Husband,’ the popular K-drama that captivated audiences worldwide, is now being adapted into a J-drama while maintaining its original Korean creators

CJ ENM is releasing a Japanese adaptation of “Marry My Husband,” the hit series that found success both in South Korea and internationally. Produced by Korea’s Leading Scripted TV Studio, Studio Dragon, the remake will be available to global audiences through Amazon Prime Video.
“Marry My Husband” is a 2024 Korean drama based on the hit web novel of the same name. Produced by Studio Dragon and aired on tvN, the story follows a woman who, after discovering her best friend’s affair with her husband and then being murdered, is somehow sent back in time to rewrite her fate and carry out a thrilling revenge. The series captivated audiences with its gripping narrative and emotional catharsis, ranking No.1 in average ratings among all tvN Monday–Tuesday dramas and dominating TV and streaming rankings. Internationally, it sparked a global phenomenon, ranking third on NME’s list of “The 10 Best Korean Dramas of 2024” and making history as the first Korean drama to top Prime Video’s global daily TV show rankings.
Riding the wave of its global success, “Marry My Husband” is now set for a Japanese adaptation, which will soon launch on Prime Video for viewers around the world. Unlike a typical direct remake, the Japanese version, also titled “Marry My Husband” (私の夫と結婚して), will be a brand-new drama inspired by the plot of the original Korean web novel. For this project, CJ ENM Japan and Studio Dragon are collaborating with JAYURO PICTURES, known for the film “You Are the Apple of My Eye,” and Shochiku, one of Japan’s oldest and most renowned production houses.

The stellar cast is heightening anticipation. Fuka Koshiba, known for her compelling performances and captivating screen presence, is taking on the lead female role. Opposite her, acclaimed actor Takeru Satoh, beloved for both his acting prowess and star power, has been confirmed as the male lead. Joining them are top-tier Japanese actors, including Sei Shiraishi and Yu Yokoyama, further raising expectations for this high-profile production.
The series will be directed by Ahn Gil-ho, renowned for his work on acclaimed Korean dramas such as “The Glory,” “Memories of the Alhambra” and “Stranger.” The script is written by celebrated Japanese screenwriter Satomi Oshima, best known for the beloved series 1 Litre of Tears and recently honored with the Excellence in Screenplay Award at the 48th Japan Academy Awards for “90 Years Old – So What?” Joining the project are executive producers from Studio Dragon, also behind the Korean version of “Marry My Husband,” and the Global Content Production team from CJ ENM, bringing their proven expertise in K-drama production.
What makes this project especially noteworthy is its unique collaboration model, with the original K-drama creators joining forces with Japanese actors and local production staff. Dubbed a “J-drama made by K-drama creators,” the series is drawing attention as a bold step toward opening a new chapter in the global market. With CJ ENM recently marking its 30th anniversary in the cultural business and reaffirming its commitment to expanding its global footprint, the upcoming Japanese adaptation of “Marry My Husband” has the potential to be a key milestone toward that vision.
“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Marry My Husband’ to global audiences once again through Prime Video, following the immense love it received from viewers,” a CJ ENM representative shared. “As K-dramas continue to gain recognition for their production capabilities not just in Korea but around the world, we are actively developing a variety of projects in collaboration with local production companies, platforms and partners. Through this Korea–Japan joint project, we hope to spark a new wave in the global market.”
The 10-episode Japanese adaptation of “Marry My Husband” will premiere on Prime Video on June 27.
