CJ OliveNetworks announced that it has successfully applied AI-based face editing technology in a complex ballet scene of the TV series “Navillera” to create highly immersive, natural movements that moved viewers’ hearts.
In “Navillera,” a popular tvN series that aired on Mondays and Tuesdays, face editing technology was applied for the first time in Korea in a TV show during a scene showing the growth of Lee Chae-rok (played by Song Kang), a 23-year-old ballerino pursuing his dream, and Shim Deok-chul (played by Park In-hwan), who started ballet at the late age of 70.
The company collaborated with Studio Dragon and CJ ENM to merge the faces of the protagonist and the ballerino stuntman’s choreography in a complex ballet scene to create refined yet natural, vivid movements that moved viewers’ hearts.
In particular, the company provided face editing technology in the final ballet performance of the two actors in the last episode to complete a delicate and perfect performance.
CJ OliveNetworks’ face editing was realized with AI-based technology by collecting learning data, processing data, applying model learning (GAN) and replacing the faces.
The company’s AI-CORE LAB extracted the original and target faces to enhance the work’s completion, analyzed and visualized the extracted data, and built an optimal learning data set.
In addition, GAN, an AI technology, was used to integrate the face for replacement into each frame of the relevant video. In particular, not only the facial features of the protagonists but also the overall structure of the head and neck were naturally synthesized to create complex and vivid ballet scenes.
“We upgraded the face-synthesizing andoptimizing technology we have solely developed to provide AI-based face editing technology, with which we plan to continue moving hearts with humanism and contribute to the development of the media industry … To prevent social abuse of the relevant development, we will use certifying technology, such as block chain, and prepare a supplementary mechanism,” said CJ OliveNetworks’ AI-CORE LAB Head Sohn Jong-soo.
In December last year, CJ OliveNetworks also utilized AI-based face editing technology for the face oft the late Turtleman in “One More Time,” an Mnet TV program, to offer a moving performance to his fans, colleagues and family.
