CJ 4DPLEX celebrated the launch of the first SCREENX theater in the Philippines with a premiere screening of “Wicked: For Good”
CJ 4DPLEX, a global leader in the premium special-format theater industry, has entered the Philippines market with the first SCREENX theater in the country.
On November 26, CJ 4DPLEX announced that it opened the Philippines’ first SCREENX theater on November 15 in partnership with SM Cinema, the country’s largest theater chain. SM Cinema operates 76 theaters across the Philippines and is the leading cinema operator in the country. The new SCREENX theater launched at SM Mall of Asia, a major landmark in Manila that is not only the largest mall in the Philippines but also the second largest in Southeast Asia. With this momentous SCREENX opening, CJ 4DPLEX is bringing local audiences an entirely new level of moviegoing immersion.
At the opening ceremony, key figures from both companies — including Don Savant, Chief Business Officer of CJ 4DPLEX, and Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls — gathered to celebrate the launch of SCREENX in the Philippines. The theater lobby was vibrantly decorated with large LED signage spotlighting SCREENX and a dedicated photo zone, showcasing strong anticipation from both Filipino moviegoers and industry professionals. Combined with striking visuals from “Wicked: For Good,” the event drew an enthusiastic response from the local audience.
SCREENX is an innovative theater format that expands the main screen to include the left and right side walls, delivering a unique, panoramic visual experience. Its overwhelming visual spectacle and the sense of immersion it offers have earned acclaim from audiences around the world. For Filipino moviegoers experiencing SCREENX for the first time, a premiere screening of the highly anticipated musical film “Wicked: For Good” was held. Viewers, who experienced a new level of immersion and felt as though they stepped into the world of the movie, responded with enthusiastic comments such as “It feels like the screen creates an entirely new space” and “This is the next level of premium specialty theaters.”
CJ 4DPLEX plans to follow the “Wicked: For Good” screening with a lineup of major global titles in the SCREENX format — including “Zootopia 2” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” CJ 4DPLEX and SM Cinema are also in ongoing discussions regarding additional SCREENX locations in the Philippines, and this opening is expected to serve as a significant milestone in expanding premium cinema technology throughout the country.
