The agreement will open 30 SCREENX theaters and upgrade 20 4DX theaters in Mexico, Central & South America and Spain, bringing the global total of CJ 4DPLEX theaters to approximately 1,300

CJ 4DPLEX, a worldwide leader in premium theater technology and an affiliate of CJ CGV, is accelerating its global expansion by strengthening its strategic partnership with Cinépolis, the world’s third-largest cinema chain.
On June 27, CJ 4DPLEX announced that it has signed an agreement with Cinépolis to open or upgrade a total of 50 SCREENX and 4DX premium theaters. This marks the company’s second-largest deal this year, following a partnership signed this past March with AMC Entertainment — the world’s largest cinema chain — to open 65 SCREENX and 4DX theaters worldwide.
Cinépolis is a global cinema chain that operates 892 theaters and 6,860 screens. Since opening its first 4DX theater in Mexico in 2011, Cinépolis has expanded its premium offerings to include 55 4DX theaters, including the only ULTRA 4DX theater in the Americas, as well as six SCREENX theaters.
Through this partnership, the two companies will install 30 new SCREENX theaters at key Cinépolis locations across Mexico, Central & South America and Spain, while also gradually upgrading 20 existing 4DX theaters in Mexico. The new SCREENX locations will feature state-of-the-art technology, including recliner seating, Barco laser projection and immersive sound systems. With this deal, the total number of SCREENX and 4DX theaters operated by CJ 4DPLEX worldwide is expected to reach approximately 1,300.
“Ever since Cinépolis launched the first 4DX cinema at Cinépolis Acoxpa, we knew the future of cinema had arrived,” said Miguel Mier, Chief Operating Officer of Cinépolis. “Now, this new chapter alongside CJ 4DPLEX reflects our commitment to continuously enhancing the cinematic experience through innovation. With SCREENX and 4DX, we are offering formats that place audiences at the center of the story, reinforcing our mission to deliver extraordinary moviegoing moments across every region we serve.”
“Cinépolis was our first strategic partner outside of CGV as they rolled out 4DX auditoriums to the marketplace in early 2010’s,” stated Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “We are pleased to be expanding our partnership with a Global Cinema Leader and accelerating our SCREENX footprint across the Americas and updating our 4DX network in Mexico.”
“Cinépolis has consistently led the way in exhibitor innovation, introducing bold and exciting concepts which cannot be replicated at home, including the only Ultra 4DX in the Americas,” commented Don Savant, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX Americas. “Our theatres in partnership with Cinépolis have performed extremely well and we’re looking forward to offer moviegoers the chance to experience the super-premium 4DX and SCREENX cinematic formats.”
Currently, the company is screening “Jurassic World Rebirth” in both SCREENX and 4DX formats globally, with more highly anticipated blockbusters set to follow this summer, including “Superman,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “The Bad Guys 2.”
