Studio Dragon, a premium storyteller group under leading entertainment company CJ ENM, announced on September 15 that it acquired a 100 percent stake of Gill Pictures Co. Ltd., a Korean drama production company known for its exceptional production capabilities.
Gill Pictures is a production company founded by CEO Park Min-yeop in 2017 and is home to top-notch Korean scripters including Park Jae-beom (Vincenzo), Kim Yoon (One the Woman) and Kim Min-seok (Juvenile Justice). The company earned its reputation by successfully producing the hit show <Stove League> in 2019, as well as <One the Woman> and <Juvenile Justice> in 2021. The upcoming series <The Fabulous>, also produced by the company, is scheduled to be released in the second half of this year.
Gill Pictures has achieved notable success in just a short time period, thanks to its aggressive talent acquisition push as well as its ability to develop creative, high-quality contents, and therefore the excitement for its potential synergy with Studio Dragon is on the rise. The acquisition makes Studio Dragon the parent company to five subsidiaries in Korea, including previously acquired Hwa&Dam Pictures, The Culture Depot, KPJ and GTist, in addition to its shares of three affiliates, MovieRock, MerryCow and Next Scene.
“Securing high-quality contents that are worth watching is essential for content makers like ourselves, particularly when the world is captivated by Korean-made contents,” said an official from Studio Dragon. “We look forward to this opportunity to partner with Gill Pictures, which has excellent production capabilities and is home to many talented creators.”
