The achievement underscores Olive Young’s evolution from a beauty retailer into a global beauty-tech platform CJ Olive Young announced that it has become the first company in Korea’s beauty and health industry to declare compliance with ISO/IEC 5230:2020, the international standard for open-source compliance. The certification evaluates how organizations manage open-source software governance, including policies, risk management systems, technical expertise and employee training related to open-source licensing and security. The milestone reflects a broader shift across the global beauty industry, where retailers are increasingly operating as technology-driven platforms supported by digital infrastructure spanning e-commerce, logistics and data systems. As software plays a growing role in retail operations, robust open-source governance has become an important factor in building trust across global markets. The certification signals that Olive Young’s open-source management framework meets internationally recognized standards for transparency, security and responsible technology governance. As Korea’s leading beauty and wellness retailer, Olive Young has expanded far beyond traditional retail. The company operates an integrated ecosystem that includes omnichannel commerce, global fulfillment infrastructure and digital services connecting thousands of brands with consumers worldwide. The recognition also comes as Olive Young accelerates its international expansion. The company is preparing to open its first U.S. brick-and-mortar store this May, marking a significant step in bringing its curated K-beauty retail model to global markets. Olive Young began developing its open-source governance framework in 2023 to align with international standards. The company established a dedicated team responsible for open-source verification and management and formed an internal Open Source Council to monitor potential risks. It also introduced policies requiring open-source validation during system development and operates automated systems to verify software licenses and detect potential security vulnerabilities.
