CJ Foods is strategically expanding its bibigo brand in Europe, targeting key retail channels and local palates
bibigo Store Officially Launches on Amazon Germany
CJ Foods officially launched its bibigo Store on Amazon Germany, the country’s largest e-commerce platform, introducing a range of K-food products. The store offers 19 bibigo products, including seaweed snacks, K-sauces (Korean pastes and sauces), Korean dumplings and chicken. Notably, this marks the first time that seaweed snack products have been available on Amazon Germany, garnering positive reactions from health-conscious local consumers.
Since acquiring the frozen food company Mainfrost in 2018, CJ Foods has steadily expanded its presence in Germany. The company has further diversified its reach, strategically sourcing its products to local supermarket chains – such as Edeka in 2019, Globus and Tegut in 2022, and REWE in 2023 – making bibigo dumplings, chicken and seaweed snacks available nationwide. As a result, bibigo’s market share in Germany’s B2C dumpling market has jumped from 18% in 2021 to 48% last year.
Moreover, the company is making significant strides in mainstream retail channels in neighboring Western European countries, including the Netherlands. In the Dutch market, bibigo is actively expanding its presence by partnering with major supermarket chains such as Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Hoogvliet. At Albert Heijn, the country’s largest supermarket chain, bibigo’s Chicken & Vegetable, Kimchi & Chicken and Vegan BBQ Gyoza, as well as its chicken products, have become very popular, leading to the recent addition of Beef Bulgogi Gyoza and Soy Honey Fried Chicken to the product lineup.
In Belgium, bibigo’s Gyoza products are also available at the country’s second and third largest supermarkets, namely Delhaize and Carrefour.
Growing Beyond Mandu: From Chicken and P-Rice (Processed Rice) to K-Sauces, Kimchi and More
This year, CJ Foods is working to accelerate its entry into major distribution channels across newly targeted Western European countries, with the goal of expanding throughout Europe. As part of this strategy, the company is currently running a bibigo Gyoza promotion in Switzerland at the well-known German supermarket chain, Aldi. Additionally, CJ Foods established a subsidiary in France to jumpstart its local operations. In the first quarter of this year, CJ Food’s European food sales surged by 45% year-over-year.
