CJ CheilJedang’s Home Meal Replacement: Hetbahn Pot(Korean Traditional Cauldron inspired) Rice CJ CheilJedang has announced that it earned 110 food-related patents from 2020 to 2022, ranking fifth in the world based on published patents from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency overseeing international patent applications. The top four companies were Suntory Holdings of Japan with 233 patents, Nestle in Switzerland with 172, DSM in the Netherlands with 167 and Cargill in the United States with 116.  Among Korean companies, CJ CheilJedang has filed the most patents in the food sector (excluding universities and research institutions), with 213 patents published in the last three years. CJ CheilJedang holds a total of 39,145 intellectual property rights and has registered 14,981 intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks and design rights. More than a hundred global patents, including those in Korea, cover Hetbahn, a leading name in Korean instant rice and a brand synonymous with instant rice products. The brand is now well-known not only in Korea, but around the world, spreading the authentic taste of Korean rice. In January, CJ CheilJedang also acquired three new patents in Korea related to the ‘New Aseptic Rice Process’, one of the key technologies needed to produce the Hetbahn Pot Rice. The patents include ‘Method for preparing instant rice with nutritional value, and hot pot rice texture’. Other patents include the eco-friendly packaging for Beksul’s Sesame Oil and heat sterilization for bibigo ready meal products.
