CJ Foods, through its American subsidiary CJ Schwan’s, has contributed to the globalization of K-Food by sponsoring an overseas Kimchi Day event.
CJ Foods said its flagship K-Food brand, bibigo, sponsored products such as kimchi, dumplings, fried rice and seaweed snacks at the 4th Virginia Kimchi Day event, held on November 23 at the Herndon Community Center in Virginia, USA.
Virginia’s Kimchi Day, officially designated by the Virginia legislature in 2022, coincides with Korea’s Kimchi Day on November 22. Following California, Virginia became the second U.S. state to establish Kimchi Day, and this year marks the fourth celebration of the K-Culture festival centered around kimchi.
The event, co-hosted by the Korean-American Society of Virginia and Irene Shin, the first Korean-American female Virginia House Delegate who introduced the bill to designate November 22 an official Kimchi Day in Virginia, was attended by approximately 350 people, including local politicians, Korean-American organizations and community residents. The event featured kimchi-making demonstrations and tastings, a gimbap-making workshop, K-pop dance performances and traditional Korean cultural performances, all of which received enthusiastic responses. Additionally, attendees enjoyed bibigo dumplings and kimchi products provided as part of the lunch menu.
CJ has been actively promoting kimchi, a representative K-Food, to the world through Kimchi Day events in the U.S.
“As K-Culture continues to gain popularity, various Korean foods, including kimchi, are receiving greater attention,” said a CJ representative. “We will continue our efforts to promote Korean food culture globally through bibigo products.”
